89th Academy Award Nominations – In Numbers

Academy Awards are arguably the most anticipated and/or respected awards for the celebration of movies across the world. 89th Academy Awards for the movies released in 2016 was kick started yesterday with the announcement of list of nominees. The main award ceremony will be hosted by comic Jimmy Kimmel on February 27 at Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center.

24- Number of categories in which the awards will be presented with 9 films competing for Best Picture category.

20Meryl Streep wins her 20th Academy Award nomination for her performance in “Francis Foster Jenkins”. The highest number of nominations for any individual across categories.

14Damien Chazelle’s “La La Land” wins the highest number of nominations, equaling the record of James Cameroon’s “Titanic” (1997) and Joseph L. Mankiewicz’s “All About Eve” (1950).

Kenneth Lonergan (Director, Screen Writing), Daniel Chazelle (Director, Screen Writing) and Denzel Washington (Actor, Producer) won nominations in TWO different categories.


The films nominated in the“Best Picture Category” did well for themselves having won 59 nominees from the total 122 nominees (48%).
